Dear Hari,
Today is your day, and I want to take this opportunity to shout from the digital rooftops just how amazing you are. You know, we’re not really the public-display-of-affection type, but for you, I’m making an exception. Buckle up, because here comes a flood of appreciation and a touch of my trademark wit.
Let me start with something Don Norman said about good design being invisible, fitting our needs so seamlessly that we hardly notice it. You, my dear, are like that good design—except you’re not invisible; you’re delightfully present in every aspect of our lives. From your sweet habits (like organizing every little note you’ve ever received) to your uncanny ability to support me through every twist and turn, you make life smoother, more enjoyable, and definitely more entertaining.
Remember when you convinced me to take that job in Delhi, despite my reluctance to leave Bangalore just months before our wedding? That leap of faith turned out to be one of the best decisions we made as a couple for me. It’s just one of the many ways you’ve nudged me to grow and discover new things about myself. Like that time on the ice rink when you pointed out my pattern of starting rough but eventually surpassing expectations—turns out, that’s a pattern in everything I do, from gardening to hiking. You’ve helped me see myself in a new light, and for that, I’m forever grateful.
Speaking of gratitude, let’s talk about the little things. Those texts on your workday asking how my day is going or your unfailing support for my plans—even the ones that change as frequently as my mood—mean more to me than you probably realize. You’ve never made me feel less-than, even when my career path took unexpected turns or when I couldn’t walk for months (remember those days? You were my hero then, and you still are now).
And let’s not forget your ability to make me laugh, even when I’m in the midst of a meltdown over something trivial. Your sense of humor is a lifeline, especially when life gets a bit too serious. Plus, your surprises—whether it’s a spontaneous hike or showing up at the airport with banners—are the stuff of legend. Who else could keep up with my bathroom breaks during outings or cheer me on during a midnight run?
But it’s not just about the big gestures. It’s also about the everyday moments—the way you listen, really listen, when I need to vent or when you stand by my side, always ready to defend me (even if you gently point out when I’m off-track). You see my flaws and quirks and somehow manage to love me even more for them.
And the best part, you make me believe in myself, even when I’m at my most doubtful. Your faith in me is unwavering, and your belief that I can achieve greatness—even when I’m not so sure—fuels my drive every day.
So, on this special day, as you turn another year wiser (and a tad older, let’s be real), I want to celebrate you—not just as my husband, but as my partner, my confidant, and my best friend. You’re the wind beneath my wings, the reason I smile even on the toughest days, and the love of my life.
Happy Birthday, husband. Here’s to many more years of adventures, laughter, and love. Thank you for being you—ridiculously wonderful, endlessly supportive, and always, always mine.
With all my heart,
Vasu
